Dr. Rui Gao received the Doctor of Science (Technology) degree in Automation, Systems, and Control Engineering from Aalto University, Finland, in 2020. Following the completion of her doctoral studies, she continued her academic journey as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Aalto University in 2021, where she contributed to several interdisciplinary projects focusing on autonomous systems and intelligent control.
In 2022, Dr. Gao joined the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) as an Assistant Professor, where she has been actively involved in teaching, research, and mentoring graduate students. Her research bridges the areas of automation, control theory, and marine engineering, emphasizing the integration of autonomous systems, state estimation, and convex optimization for real-world engineering applications.
Dr. Gao’s scientific contributions include the development of robust and efficient algorithms for estimation and control of dynamic systems, with applications in marine robotics, intelligent transportation, and energy-efficient system design. Her work aims to enhance the autonomy, safety, and reliability of complex engineering systems operating in uncertain and dynamic environments.
She has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and conferences and has collaborated with multidisciplinary teams across Europe and Asia. In addition to her research, Dr. Gao is actively engaged in academic service, serving as a reviewer for leading journals in automation and control, and participating in international scientific committees.
Through her ongoing work, Dr. Gao continues to advance the field of intelligent autonomous systems, striving to bridge theoretical advancements with practical implementations that contribute to the sustainable development of ocean and civil engineering technologies.
