Fernanda Madureira Coutinho received her PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 2013. She earned her MSc in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, in 1997, and her BSc in Electrical Engineering from the University of Coimbra, Portugal, in 1994.She is Vice-Chair of the Portugal Affinity Group of IEEE Women in Engineering (WiE). She is also a Researcher at the Research Centre for Asset Management and Systems Engineering (RCM2+) and an Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Coimbra. Her research interests include medical robotics, human–machine interaction, adaptive control, contact parameter estimation, robotic telemanipulation and telepresence, medical devices, and the design of microcontroller-based embedded systems.
