Sijiong Zhang received his BSc degree in physics from inner Mongolia University in 1986. He then completed an MSc degree in optics at the Xian Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics in 1989 and further pursued his PhD at the Beijing Institute of technology in 1996. He worked as an optical scientist at several institutions, including Heriot-Watt University and University of Cambridge, etc., from 1999 to 2010. In July 2010, he, as a professor in adaptive optics, joined the Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology.
