Marcelo Eduardo Vieira Segatto is a distinguished academic in the field of electrical engineering, currently serving as a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES) in Vitória, Brazil. He earned his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from UFES in 1991, his M.Sc. from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 1994, and his Ph.D. from Imperial College London in 2001. Since joining UFES in 1994, he has held significant leadership roles, including Head of the Department from 2012 to 2016. His research interests encompass optical communications, fiber optic sensors, and smart grid technologies. Professor Segatto has contributed extensively to the academic community, mentoring numerous graduate students and publishing over 2,300 citations in scholarly articles. He is also a Senior Member of the Optical Society of America (OSA) and has been involved in various research projects supported by Brazilian funding agencies.
