Harith Bin Ahmad, FASc, is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Photonics Research Centre at the University of Malaya, Malaysia. Widely regarded as the pioneer of photonics in Malaysia, he has been instrumental in advancing research and education in fibre optics, optical amplifiers, lasers, and photonic devices. He earned his Ph.D. in Laser Technology from the University of Wales in 1983 and has since published more than 500 ISI-indexed papers, supervised numerous postgraduate students, and contributed significantly to national and international collaborations. Prof. Harith’s achievements have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Merdeka Award for Scholastic Achievement (2010) and the ASEAN Outstanding Scientist & Technologist Award (2014). His work continues to drive innovation in photonics research and technology commercialization.
