Wenqiang Sun is a Professor and Head of the Department of Thermal Engineering at Northeastern University, affiliated with the Institute of Energy Science and Ecological Industry. His research focuses on Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics, particularly Thermal Engineering and sustainable energy systems.

He has served at Northeastern University since 2014, progressing from Lecturer to Associate Professor (2018–2023), Deputy Director of the department (2022–2024), and Professor and Department Head since 2025.

Prof. Sun is currently a Senior Editor for Applied Energy (IF = 10.1) and Subject Editor for High Temperature Materials and Processes (IF = 1.5), and was Associate Editor for Applied Energy from 2022 to 2024. He also serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the Energy and Thermal Engineering Branch of the Chinese Society for Metals (since 2021) and is a member of the Teaching Committee of New Energy and Energy Storage Engineering under the China Mechanical Industry Education Association (since 2022).

Dr Yu (Jack) Gong, Associate Professor in Operations Management at the Business School of the University of Southampton, UK, academic visitor at the University of Oxford. His main research interests are multi-tier sustainable supply chain management and supply chain innovation. He has published more than 80 SCI/SSCI papers and four Ivey teaching cases. Papers have been published in prestige journals such as IJOPM, IJPE, IJPR, IMM, and BSE. Served as AE of “Business Strategy and the Environment” (ABS 3), editorial board member of IMDS and SCREM, guest editor of IJOPM, IJPR, JBL, and anonymous reviewer for many internationally renowned journals.

Wenzhou Yu is a professor at Chongqing University, China, specializing in Metallurgical Engineering. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Central South University in 2007, followed by a Master’s degree (2010) and a Ph.D. (2014) from Kunming University of Science and Technology. From 2022 to 2023, he conducted a one-year visiting study at the University of Tokyo. His research primarily focuses on solid waste recycling, particularly the sustainable treatment of coal fly ash, red mud, and polycrystalline silicon cutting waste using low-carbon metallurgical techniques. To date, he has published extensively in areas such as waste recycling and high-purity metal preparation.

Dr. Huan Xi is an Associate Professor in the School of Energy and Power Engineering at Xi’an Jiaotong University. He obtained his B.Eng. in Environmental Science and Engineering and his Ph.D. in the School of Energy and Power Engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University,  and he also had a visiting PhD experience at Queen Mary University of London.

Dr. Xi’s research interests cover 100% renewable energy utilization systems, waste to heat/power, energy storage technology, and battery thermal management systems. He has a rich publication record in various high – impact journals and has presented his research at numerous conferences, including delivering keynote and invited speeches. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards of multiple academic journals, contributing to the academic community’s growth and the development of research in his fields of interest.

Dr. Gi-Wook Cha obtained his Ph.D. in 2014 from Kyungpook National University in South Korea, specializing in the field of building environmental studies. His doctoral research focused on the assessment of carbon dioxide emissions throughout the life cycle of buildings. Currently, he is serving as a research professor at Kyungpook National University, where he conducts research on waste management technologies and CO2 prediction using machine learning. To date, he has published over 28 papers in prestigious journals and has served as a reviewer for more than 10 internationally recognized journals.

Danuka is working as a first year PhD student in University of Oulu, Finland. His study area is finding an innovative method to recycle steel and iron making by products by using biomass and hydrogen as reducing agents under microwave radiation. He has published one journal article related to his PhD and another one is under reviewing. Further, he has published two conference proceedings related to his previous studies.

Professor Antonis Zorpas is a Chemical Engineer, actively engaged with several Universities, Research Institutes in Europe. He is Professor at Open University of Cyprus, Director of the Lab of Chemical Engineering & Engineering Sustainability, Director in Sustainable Environmental Engineering Postgraduate Master (MSc) and member of OUC Senate. He has more than 650 publications (books, contribution on books, papers in journals, international conferences). His Google h-index now 59, with more than 11000 citations. He has recognized since 2019 among the worlds to 1% in the list of the most influential researchers in the world in the section of Environmental Science and on <1% in the section of Chemical Engineering based on bibliometric data from the Stanford University (USA) and Elsevier Report. In addition, his acting as Editor on behalf of several Scientific Journals such as the Chemical Engineering Journal (Elsevier, I.F15.1/Q1). Dr. Julián Puszkiel has more than ten years of experience in different fields of materials science, applications of hydrogen, energy technology, and capture-conversion CO₂ (h-index: 25 / citations > 1800). He has been in eight different positions in research centers in Argentina, Spain, and Germany obtained through competitive evaluation processes in the frame of various agencies and institutions such as CONICET, Alexander von Humboldt, and EU-Marie Skłodowska-Curie-ACCIÓ. He is the laboratory manager in the Dept. of Applied Material Engineering at Helmut-Schmidt-University Hamburg and deputy head of the Dept. of System Design for Mobile and Stationary Hydrogen-Energy Applications in Helmholtz-Zentrum HEREON, Germany.

Juliana Izidoro is a collaborating researcher at the Center for Chemistry and Environment of IPEN/USP. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Federal University of ABC with a research project on the application of polymeric nanoparticles containing nitric oxide (NO) donors to mitigate the effects of drought in sugarcane (2023) and another postdoctoral on the conversion of agro-industrial waste into value-added products at IPEN/USP in 2020. She has experience in waste reuse and treatment, in topics such as synthesis of materials from agro-industrial waste, materials characterization techniques, low-cost adsorbents, water treatment, energy, and environment.

Raffaella Colombo graduated (2004, 110 cum laude) and obtained her PhD (2009) in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Pavia (UniPv), where then she had also Post Doc fellow (2009-2010). Since 2010 she is Researcher in Drug Sciences Dept., UniPv. She is an expert of analytical techniques (HPLC, CE) applied on proteins and drugs (quality control, protein folding and aggregation pathways, drug discovery). She has worked on many projects aimed at studying pathological proteins involved in amyloidosis diseases (mainly Alzheimer’s Disease) at Pharmaceutical Analysis Laboratory, Drug Sciences Dept., UniPv. She has also studied molecule-target interactions by Affinity techniques (ACE and microcantilevers). Since 2017 she is part of Nutraceutical and Food Chemical Toxicological Analysis Laboratory, Drug Sciences Dept., UniPv. She works on different matrices (herbal extracts, food, food supplements, and food by-products) from the set-up of extraction methodologies and analytical platforms (HPLC-UV/MS) for the characterization step to the test of bioactivities by in vitro technologies (biochemical assays and cell-based millifluidic platforms).

She is author of 61 scientific publications (h-index 20) (Scopus ID: 26632925700; Orcid 0000-0001-9675-6598) and holds 1 patent. She is Lecturer of: -Food supplements and food for specific groups, -Compounds with healthy and toxic action in food, -Pharmaceutical analysis 2-Quantitative drug analysis (Pharmacy course, Drug Sciences Dept., UniPv).

Adele Papetti graduated in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, received post-lauream degree in Industrial Pharmacy and Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Pavia. Since 2012 she is Chief of Nutraceutical & Food Chem Toxicol Analysis Laboratory, since 2018 Associate Professor in Food Chemistry, since 2020 Director of post-lauream Master’s degree in “Nutraceuticals and food supplements: from raw material to their clinical uses”. She is SIFNut scientific board member, Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Related Industrial Innovation PhD school teaching board, Italian Chemical Society and Institute of Food Technologists Professional Member. Author of 110 papers, 6 book chapter, h-index: 35 (Scopus).

Jinxing Ma is a professor in the School of Ecology, Environment and Resources at Guangdong University of Technology. He obtained B.S. (2010) and Ph.D. (2015) degree in Environmental Engineering from Tongji University. His research interests include i) the understanding of the “Water-Energy” nexus in water purification and ii) development of appropriate solutions to challenges such as the sustainable water supply and resource management. Particularly, Dr. Ma’s significant achievement involves the design and deployment of fit-for-purpose electrochemical technologies for clean water. He has (co)authored 6 book chapters and over 150 refereed journal publications, and holds more than 20 patents. By 2024, he has successfully attracted 1.5 million USD funds from the National Natural Science Fund of China, Australian Research Council, and industry partners. Dr. Ma is now a member of IWA Young Water Professionals China, 2021-2023. He has been recognized in Stanford University List of the World’s Top 2% Scientists, and a Rising Star of Research in Australia’s Top 40 young researchers.

Érika Flávia Machado Pinheiro is professor at Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ). She completed a postdoctoral study at the University of Florida (USA) in 2015. She has experience in organic waste reuse and treatment for agriculture, as well as the production of agricultural inputs (fertilizers), materials characterization techniques, low-cost adsorbents, water treatment, energy, and environment. She also investigates soil organic matter: dynamics and function. She also works monitoring soil carbon for carbon credits. She is Head of the Department of Agrotechnology’s and Sustainability at the Institute of Agronomy at UFRRJ and Vice Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Agricultural and Environmental Engineering at UFRRJ.

Dr. Irene Voukkali is a Lecturer at the Open University of Cyprus, specializing in Green Entrepreneurship, Climate Resilience, Urban Metabolism, Bio-economy, and the European Green Deal. She holds a PhD in Urban Metabolism from the Open University of Cyprus, a Master’s in Food Science from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and a Master’s in Environmental Engineering from the University of Cyprus. She has published 62 scientific papers, presented at over 80 conferences, and authored 10 book chapters. Additionally, she reviews for multiple scientific journals and has a Google Scholar h-index of 27.

Thami Zeghloul was born in Casablanca, Morocco, on December 25, 1962. He received the M.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Fundamental and Applied Sciences Faculty and the Ph.D. degree with a thesis on the stick-slip phenomena between solids from the University of Poitiers, Angouleme, France, in 1987 and 1991, respectively. During his doctoral studies, he started teaching mathematics and physics, at first to high school pupils, and then to university students, as a Teaching Assistant. From 1991 to 1995, he was an Associate Researcher with the University Institute of Technology, Angouleme, University of Poitiers, where since 1995, he has been an Assistant Professor, and then, an Associate Professor. From 2001 to 2007, he was the Head of the Quality, Industrial Logistics, and Organization Department. As Director of the University Institute of Technology, from 2007 to 2017, he stood for the creation of an expertise center dedicated to ecodesign, to train students, and to favor the transfer of sustainable technologies to small- and medium-sized businesses. Since September 2010, he has also been the Manager of a technological platform dedicated to image and sound industry, sponsored by the University Institute of Technology, and the local authorities. Since September 1^st 2023 he is Full University Professor and leader of the “Tribo-electrostatics” Research Group of the PPRIME Institute, CNRS–University of Poitiers–ENSMA. He is the author of more than 80 papers in the field on electrostatic and tribology processes, and has given invited lectures related to tribo-electrostatic processes at several international conferences. He holds 5 patents and currently supervises several Ph.D. theses on the triboelectric charging of polymers and the electrostatic separation of granular mixtures.

Ioanna Giannopoulou is a Metallurgical Engineer graduated from the National Technical Univerity of Athens, in Greece and obtained a PhD degree in Metallurgy and Materials Technology from the same University. She is Scientific Researcher at Frederick Research Center, in Nicosia, Cyprus. She has published more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences on the critical metals recovery from wastes and the utilization of solid wastes into innovative materials.

Mayu Imanishi is a researcher and consultant specializing in ESG strategy, sustainability, and the circular economy. With over a decade of global consulting experience at IBM and the EU-Japan Centre, she has published academic research and led international collaborations on sustainable practices.

He has managed 16 PhD theses as thesis director and 2 are in progress; he has also co- managed 24 PhD theses and 4 co-managements theses are in progress. He has been involved as a manager or a participant in several national and international projects, as well in international collaborations (Algeria, Belgium, Hungary, Iran, Lebanon, Mexico, Morocco, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Tunisia…).

He has published more than 550 international papers including 15 papers in press. He is the co-Editor of five books (Elsevier). He has also published 12 chapter books and has about 130 international and 20 national oral communications.

Pedro Pitrez is a dedicated Mechanical Engineer, specialized in Thermal Energy, with solid academic and professional training. He has a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from FEUP and he is currently a PhD student in same area at FEUP.

His research focuses on energy systems, internal combustion engines and plasma gasification for the treatment of hazardous waste.

He has experience as a researcher and teacher, teaching Thermodynamics 1 and 2 at FEUP and supervising laboratory and theoretical-practical classes at UTAD. As a Research and Development Engineer at INEGI, he contributed to the design and optimization of industrial machinery, particularly in the cork industry. He currently works as a Planning and Operations Engineer at EDP Geração, managing production planning and hydroelectric maintenance.

Pedro has actively contributed to the scientific community, with publications in renowned journals. In 2023 he published an article in Energy Reports entitled “Numerical Analysis of plasma gasification of hazardous waste using Aspen Plus”. In 2025, his paper “Recovery of infectious hospital waste and its safe neutralization” was published in the International Journal of Hydrogen Energy. He has also presented at international conferences including TMREES and ENCIT, gaining recognition for his research.

In addition to academia and industry, Pedro has been involved in mentoring and innovation initiatives. In 2024, he served as a mentor for the Well Do Good challenge at the University of Porto, where he guided participants in developing sustainable and profitable solutions for an industrial company seeking to improve its environmental performance.

His experience spans computational tools such as MATLAB, Aspen Plus and TwinCat 3, as well as strong problem-solving, leadership and continuous improvement skills. Passionate about automotive engineering, he also conducted numerical and experimental studies on high-performance internal combustion engines, as shown in his publication shared in 2020 entitled: “Numercial Analysis of the performance and subsequent upgrade of a racing 3.0 L Porsche 911 Engine”

Han Yu, professor and doctoral supervisor of China Agricultural University, received PhD degree from University of Wollongong in 2014. She served as deputy director of the Department of Hydraulic Engineering of the School of Water Conservancy and Civil Engineering. She is engaged in related research on hydrology, water resources and hydrodynamics, and systematically reveals the spatio-temporal scale and generation mechanism of complex open-channel turbulent sequence structure. She has published more than 90 papers in reputed journals, and as been serving as an editorial board member of Journal of Hydrodynamics.

Dr. Xin Wang received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Arkansas in 2022. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Wenzhou-Kean University. Since 2020, he has published more than 15 papers in a variety of top journals, such as Nano Energy, Matter, Energy Storage Materials, Journal Energy Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Journal, and has been editorial board members of Exploration and Responsive Materials.

Amalia Conte has completed her PhD and postdoctoral studies from University of Foggia (Italy). She is Associate Professor in Food Science at the University of Foggia. Her involvement in projects is very active. The high degree of novelty of the results achieved from her research allowed to deposit various patents, published numerous articles in international journals provided with peer review system, and create a spin-off on the development of food products with healthy, high shelf life and high convenient products. Her research has always been characterized by an intense editorial activity with more than 200 scientific publications in reputed journals

Ph.D. in Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiesti, completed my master’s degrees in

Process Engineering in France. With over 10 years of experience in the field, as a skilled engineer, I was able to assess problems, search for solutions or create one to tackle all challenges on field in order to prove myself and prove my skills.

I have been working for more than 8 years in the oil &amp; gas field, covering all the departments starting upstream, midstream and downstream. I developed a new formulation for the upstream intervention that led to successful operations, especially in terms of production and accessibility restoration in the wells. Additionally, I focused on improving oil production by analyzing reservoir damaged skin and creating new technique that can be implemented into more than 40 wells with successful records in the last three years, which was able to create warm holes and improve rock permeability.

As a lecturer, I have taught approximately 240 hours at institution CNAM Faculty of Engineering, covering subjects like introduction to petroleum, prospection, drilling, reservoir management, production restoration and downstream facilities. I have supervised over 40 graduation projects, mentoring students to achieve innovation and technical excellence.

Ikram Loukili is a Moroccan researcher with over 15 years of experience in civil engineering, project management, and ecological construction.

She holds a PhD in Geosciences and Environment, complemented by a certification in Sustainability of Infrastructure Systems from MIT.

Ikram has managed complex, multidisciplinary research projects in Morocco, involving urban development, eco-construction, and geotechnical analysis, while leading diverse teams and collaborating with various stakeholders from the public and private sector.

Currently, she is a part-time professor at Collège Boréal in Canada, where she teaches civil engineering and architecture and continues to focus on integrating environmental sustainability into urban and territorial development.

Paolo Sospiro held his PhD in Development Economics from University of Florence.

He is Assistant Professor of Management Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of University Ecampus.

He is Associate Researcher of the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Faculty of Engineering of Polytechnic University of Marche where as well as is adjunct Professor of Economics and Management Engineering.

Finally, he is director of the Brussels based Think Tank EUAbout and he is CEO of the Brussels based consulting company EUInnova.

He is specialized on European Affairs, services of general interest (energy, transportation, waste management, water supply and education), circular economy and twin transition.

Antoni Femenia, Director of the Department of Chemistry at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). He has a PhD in Agri-Food Sciences from the University of Western Brittany (France) and a PhD in Chemical Sciences from the UIB. He has also worked at the Polytechnic University of Valencia and at different Research Centers in England (Quadram Institute and John Innes Institute) and France (ADRIA center). He has published more than 100 research articles in prestigious specialized journals and is co-author of 6 books, all of them within the subject of Food Chemistry.

Dr. Claudio Di Iaconi is a chief research scientist at Water Research Institute (IRSA) of National Research Council of Italy (CNR), Bari headquarter. Dr. Di Iaconi has completed his MS degree in Industrial Chemistry at the University “La Sapienza” of Rome in 1993. He has a vast experience in water-related environmental technologies and in particular in wastewater treatment and resource recovery, biomass and sludge treatment. Mr Di Iaconi developed several advanced processes for municipal and industrial wastewater and sludge treatment according to the circular economy model. He was coordinator/principal investigator in more than 30 national and international research projects. He is a co-author of more than 200 scientific papers published in peer reviewed journals or presented to scientific conferences, book chapters on different subjects within the wastewater treatment field. He is serving as an editorial board member for several international peer reviewed journals. He was member of the international scientific committee in several conferences. He has received some national and international awards for having achieved innovative scientific results in the field of water-related environmental technologies.

Olena Stryhunivska, PhD, Eng., AGH University of Krakow, Poland. Faculty member at the Department of Business Informatics and Management Engineering, Faculty of Management, AGH University of Science and Technology in Kraków. Specializes in spatial planning of production facilities, machine placement in production halls, technological planning and designing logistics processes in manufacturing plants. Author of publications on managing harmful emissions from transportation, layout planning, ecodesign based on circular economy principles, reconstruction of production halls and updates to spatial layouts. Francesca Demichelis is a fixed-term researcher at the Department of Applied Science and Technology (DISAT) at Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Her position is in accordance with Law 240/10, Article 24-B, a regulation that outlines the framework for the recruitment of academic researchers in Italy.

As a researcher at DISAT, Dr. Demichelis is involved in various scientific and technological research projects. Krstimir Pantić  has completed his PhD at the University of Belgrade. He is the Assistant Professor at University of Priština from 2020. He has published 5 papers in reputed journals. Krstimir Pantić has extensive work experience as an engineer in Metallurgy. He also has political experience as a municipal president, deputy minister and deputy in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Renan S. Nunes holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the Federal University of ABC – Brazil, with research internships in Portugal. He is a FAPESP-funded Postdoctoral Researcher specialized in materials chemistry for environmental, agricultural, and biomedical applications. Renan has extensive expertise in developing catalysts for biomass conversion, adsorbents for wastewater treatment, and nanomaterials for sustainable processes. His work integrates chemometric tools like DoE to optimize materials and promote sustainability. Throughout his career, he has worked with diverse materials, including nanoparticles, clays, and biopolymers, focusing on practical applications in catalysis, adsorption, and resource recovery, aligned with global environmental challenges.

Emmanuel Umoru Haruna is an experienced economic policy and development specialist with over 14 years of experience. Mr. Haruna worked as a Senior Economic Policy and Research Analyst with the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and Economic Planning for 12 years. He is a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Economic Analysis (ICEA) in Canada, and Institute for Research and Policy Integration in Africa (IRPIA) in Sierra-Leone. Currently, Mr. Haruna is a PhD candidate in Development Economics at Kobe University in Japan (all-but-dissertation) to graduate in March, 2025. He has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals in the field of development, labor, and environmental economics.

Elena Coccia is a Senior Researcher of Comparative Anatomy, Cell Biology and Developmental Biology. Her research focuses on developing advanced biological models, such as brain organoids and intestinal epithelium models, to investigate the effects of bioactive compounds on feeding behavior and gut-brain axis. Biomolecules derived from sustainable and renewable sources can protect against inflammation and oxidative stress, offering potential benefits for chronic conditions like metabolic syndrome, inflammatory bowel diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders.Her work also includes testing bioactive compounds to improve nutrition, growth, and health in animal models, with applications in sustainable aquaculture and biomedicine.Additionally, she explores nanoparticles functionalized with bioactive molecules for medical applications. The potential of biopolymers and bioactive molecules extracted from biomass and agricultural by-products for use in food and medicine is also being investigated in collaboration with European universities.

Érika is a Biologist, Esp. in Environmental Management, Master in Environmental Technology, tutor and PhD in Environment and Development. She has completed her PhD at the age of 47 years and postdoctoral studies from from the Federal University of Pernambuco, Brazil. She is a post-doc researcher in the Development and Environment Program (PRODEMA). She has published more than 28 papers in reputed journals and has been serving as an editorial board member of repute.

Dr. Jan-Olof Drangert is em. Assoc. professor at Linköping University. His area of studies started with water issues in rural areas, then over to urban sanitation challenges, and presently global environmental and health impacts of food systems. The common thread is human food consumtion and its relation to resources and the environment. He has published more than 50 articles in reputed journals and has been serving as Guest Editor to several publications

Dr. Andrea Appolloni is Associate Professor in Operations Management and Sustainability at Tor Vergata University in Rome, Italy. In the same University he completed his Ph.D in Business Administration. He is Permanent Visiting Fellow at Cranfield University (UK) and Research Associate at the Italian Research Council. His teaching areas focused on Operations, Supply Chain and Procurement Management and Sustainability courses at undergratuate and executive level. He was visiting in several Universities in the last years He has published and presented articles in several international journals and conferences. He is coordinator of the European Project Marie Curie Hosrizon 2020 on Sustainable Public Procurement. . He is expert member in Sustainability at the Global SCP Clearinghouse is a unique one-stop hub dedicated to Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) and he is part of the10 Year Framework of Programmes on SCP (10YFP on SCP), convened by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). He was visiting scholars at Tianjin University  (China), at University of Tennessee in Knoxville (USA) and at ETH Zurich (CH).

Dr. William CHUNG is an associate professor of Management Sciences at the City University of Hong Kong. He earned his Ph.D. in Management Sciences at the University of Waterloo, Canada. His personal research interests mainly focus on developing mathematical methodologies for environmental policy problems, like large-scale equilibrium models and benchmarking methods for waste management. He has published over 60 papers in reputed journals, like Operations Research, European Journal of Operational Research (EJOR), and Waste Management.

Bojan Đurin Was born 30.07.1981. in Varaždin, where he finished elementary and high school. Graduated from the Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering, University of Zagreb in 2007 (Master of Geotechnical Engineering, M.Sc.). Received his PhD in 2014 from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Geodesy, University of Split (Ph.D.). Became Assistant professor in 2016, and Associate professor in 2021.

Lucian-Ionel CIOCA is a full professor at the “Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, a position he acquired in 2007. Since 2010, he has been a doctoral advisor in Engineering and Management.
His research focuses on management, human resources management, production systems engineering, ergonomics, circular economy, sustainability, occupational safety, and health management.

I am currently working on the project entitled: SafeEngine – Blended Learning through Innovative Tools for Sustainable and Safety Engineering and Social Inclusion. The SafeEngine project is a strategic partnership concerned with the development of innovative tools for higher engineering education, supporting the improvement of learning-oriented programs that better meet students’ learning needs, while being relevant to the labor market and society at large. The project partners are the University POLITEHNICA of Bucharest (Romania), the University of Malaga (Spain), the Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu (Romania), and the University of Naples Federico II (Italy).

Prof. Giuseppe Bonifazi, a distinguished academic at the Department of Chemical, Materials, and Environmental Engineering at Sapienza – Università di Roma, is renowned for his expertise in advanced sensing and imaging technologies. Holding an M.Sc. in Mining Engineering from Sapienza Università di Roma (1983), Prof. Bonifazi’s research focuses on hyperspectral imaging applications in waste management, recycling, and materials characterization. His work addresses critical sustainability challenges, including urban mining, anaerobic digestion monitoring, and quality control in industrial processes. With an extensive publication record, he has significantly advanced environmental engineering, particularly through innovative imaging platforms for classifying construction and demolition waste, monitoring biological reactions in waste processing, and assessing the quality of food and recyclable materials. Prof. Bonifazi’s contributions to sustainable resource recovery and process optimization are widely recognized in academia and industry alike.

Professor Al-Khatib has experience in a wide range of areas including water recourses management and quality, environmental assessment, wastewater management, advocacy, coordination and networking. Al-Khatib has an extended experience in the development and carrying research and evaluation projects, professional work experience in engineering hydrology, water resources management, engineering hydraulics, environmental impact assessment, environmental monitoring, training and evaluation of medical waste, solid waste, water and sanitation and urban environment projects. He is an expert in social and environmental health, promoting environmental public awareness through training, organizing and conducting awareness campaigns and workshops in environmental education and health. He is a member in the national committees for setting environmental standards and regulations such as swimming pools water quality. Al-Khatib is an expert in academic quality evaluation and development and supervised more than 40 MSc. theses in the above mentioned topics.

Dr. Hugo Wai Leung Mak is a dedicated academic and Lecturer in the Department of Mathematics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics and completed his PhD at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he honed his expertise in mathematical and physical sciences.

At CUHK, Dr. Mak is based in Room 208 of the Lady Shaw Building, situated on the university’s Shatin campus. His work focuses on advancing understanding in mathematics and its applications to physics, fostering interdisciplinary insights, and contributing to the academic development of students and the broader research community

Valeria Cafaro is a researcher specializing in agricultural biotechnology and bioenergy. Currently pursuing a PhD in Agricultural, Food, and Environmental Science at the University of Catania, their work focuses on optimizing Ricinus communis L. cultivation for biodiesel production and developing high-yield varieties for semi-arid environments.

They hold a Master’s in Agricultural Biotechnology (2020) and a Bachelor’s in Agricultural Science and Technology (2018), both from the University of Catania, graduating cum laude. They are also a qualified biologist (2020).

Notable achievements include winning second place at the Contamination Lab Start-Up competition and conducting advanced molecular research during an internship at CREA-ACM.

Prof. Dr. Nelio Teixeira Machado is a leading expert in Chemical Engineering with a focus on bioenergy, thermodynamics, and separation processes. He holds degrees in Physics, Chemical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering, a doctorate from TUHH (1998), and a Post-Doctorate in Bioenergy Engineering (ATB, 2015-2016).

Currently a Full Professor at UFPA, he has held key roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Food Engineering and Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Chemical Engineering. He has supervised over 100 graduate and doctoral research projects.

An accomplished researcher, Prof. Machado has published 43 journal articles, 4 book chapters, and over 295 conference papers. His work in biofuel production, biomass transformation, and supercritical fluid technology has established him as a leader in the field.

Ahmed Kassem is a Research Associate and PhD Candidate at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Duisburg-Essen, Campus Duisburg. He works within the Chair of Technical Logistics, specializing in transportation systems and logistics.

Ahmed’s academic and professional expertise lies in advancing research and innovation in logistics and transportation technologies. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary projects and contributes to developing efficient and sustainable solutions in the field.

Dr. Dan Cudjoe is an Associate Professor at the School of Business, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology. He got a Ph.D. in Management Science and Engineering from the Beijing University of Technology, where he received the academic excellence award for outstanding Ph.D. students. Dr. Cudjoe has worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research, Beijing Institute of Technology. He sits on the editorial boards of a number of energy and environment journals and is active in research in the field of circular economy, pro-environmental behaviors, environmental management, and waste management. He is ranked among the World’s top 2% scientists in the Environmental Sciences and Energy field by Stanford University and Elsevier. He has been awarded high-level national research grants as the principal investigator, including the Research Fund for International Young Scientists by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). Dr. Cudjoe has published over 50 papers in reputable international peer-review SCI/SSCI journals as the first or corresponding author.

Dr. Hong Chen has a multidisciplinary background in environmental chemistry, environmental engineering, inorganic chemistry, material chemistry, and applied physics. His main research interest is green energy-driven resource recovery and environmental pollution control. He received his doctoral degree in inorganic chemistry from the Department of Environmental and Material Chemistry at Stockholm University in 2014, working with Prof. Junliang Sun and Xiaodong Zou. After a short postdoc training, he continued his postdoc training at KTH-Royal Institute of Technology with Prof. Licheng Sun, Stanford University with Prof. Michael F. Toney, University of California-Berkeley with Prof. Peidong Yang. In September 2018, he joined SUSTech. Now he is an associate professor at the School of Environmental Science and Engineering.

He has applied for more than 10 patents and published more than 140 peer-reviewed papers with an h-index of 47 and google scholar citations >8300. More than half of them were published in prestigious journals with an impact factor higher than 10, including Nature Mater., PNAS, Science Adv., Nature Comm., JACS, Angew. Chem. Nano Lett., Environ. Sci. Tech., Water Res., Green Chem. etc..He serves as the associate editor for Environmental Chemistry Letters (IF:13.6), board member for the journal of Sustainable Horizons, Environmental Surface and Interfacse, Environmental Functional Materials, young editorial committee member of Chinese Chemical Letters, Chemical Engineering Journal Advances, Industrial Wastewater Treatment(In Chinese), Engineering Science &Technology (In Chinese). As a research scientist, Dr. Omid Akbarzadeh Pivehzhani works with Texas A&M University, Department of Petroleum Engineering. He worked with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in the USA and Nanotechnology and Catalysis Research Centre (NANOCAT) at the University of Malaya in Malaysia. His main research areas are heterogeneous and homogeneous catalysis, catalytic reaction engineering, nanocatalyst synthesis, nanomaterials characterization, CO2 conversion, and gas process. He has spent 15 years in academic-industrial projects as a research officer and post-doctoral. He developed advanced smart catalysts, especially for the oil and gas industries. Omid has contributed to two PETRONAS Research Sdn Bhd industrial catalyst projects and worked on an international Airbus R&D project in NANOCAT. He was a project member of the FRGS grant in UTP Malaysia. Omid was the Chairman, keynote speaker, and organizing committee of many international conferences. He supervised three PhD students from different countries. He has published many ISI papers; book chapters and inventor of two approved and granted international patents. Also, he has hands-on experience and passed several pieces of training on handling different types of advanced equipment which are being widely used for nanomaterials synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation. He is in close collaboration with other departments, government agencies, and universities worldwide. He was a visiting researcher at Jiangsu University China and Hokkaido University Japan. He is a Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) member and a Senior Member of the Hong Kong Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society. Omid was awarded a full fellowship from the University Technology PETRONAS during his PhD and was involved as a lab demonstrator and teaching in the different courses of chemical engineering. He was awarded a Silver Medal at the 27th International Invention & Innovation Exhibition (ITEX 2016), Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in Malaysia, and a Silver Medal of Post Graduate Research Project at the 35th Science & Engineering Design Exhibition (SEDEX 35).
