Sam is an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Epigenetics in Human Health and Disease Laboratory, internationally recognised for his contributions to epigenetics research. He has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals, including Circulation, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and Cell Reports. Sam leads advanced training programs for early-career scientists and PhD researchers, with a strong focus on mentoring national and international trainees. He holds adjunct and honorary appointments at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and University College Copenhagen and is a strong advocate for gender equity, diversity, and inclusion. Currently, he is a Danish Diabetes Academy Professor at the Steno Diabetes Centre Copenhagen, where his research aims to translate epigenetic discoveries into therapeutic targets for diabetic complications.
