Biography:

Dr. Elaine Boland is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the United Kingdom and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Palliative Medicine at Hull York Medical School. She qualified in medicine from the University of Malta in 2002 before completing her general medical training and MRCP. She moved to the UK in 2006, where she developed her expertise in oncology and palliative medicine.

Dr. Boland has served as a consultant in palliative medicine in Hull since 2012 and contributes to the clinical and multidisciplinary leadership of palliative care services. Her clinical and academic interests include symptom management, supportive care, cancer-related complications, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy, quality of life, and palliative care for patients with both malignant and non-malignant conditions. Her PhD research explored brain processing of chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy in patients with multiple myeloma, alongside quality of life and symptom burden.

She is actively involved in research, medical education, and professional development. She teaches palliative and end-of-life care, communication skills, and clinical reasoning, and participates in medical examinations and national educational activities. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and contributes to international palliative and supportive care initiatives. She also serves as Deputy Associate Editor for the palliative care section of Supportive Care in Cancer and has been an invited member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer guidelines committee.
