Biography :

David J. Tauben, MD, FACP, is a distinguished physician and pain medicine specialist with extensive experience in chronic pain management, medical education, and healthcare policy. He is Clinical Professor Emeritus of Medicine and Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine. Dr. Tauben earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Washington in Seattle. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Pain Medicine and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Throughout his career, Dr. Tauben has contributed significantly to pain education and multidisciplinary approaches to chronic pain care. He served as Chief of the UW Division of Pain Medicine and Medical Director of the UW Center for Pain Relief. He also led UW TelePain, an innovative telehealth program providing pain-management education and consultation to healthcare providers. His academic work includes research and publications on pain education, chronic pain management, non-opioid medications, opioid prescribing, and measurement-based approaches to pain care. He has also contributed to national and state-level pain policy initiatives, including opioid-prescribing guidelines. Dr. Tauben continues to be recognized for his contributions to pain medicine, clinical education, and efforts to improve evidence-based, multidisciplinary approaches to chronic pain management.
