Baoping Zhang is a leading researcher in semiconductor materials and devices, currently serving as a Professor at the Institute of Nanoscience and Applications & Institute of Semiconductor Epitaxy and Devices, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). He earned his B.Sc. in Semiconductor Physics from Lanzhou University, M.Eng. from Hebei Semiconductor Research Institute, and Ph.D. in Applied Physics from the University of Tokyo, Japan. He has held positions at RIKEN, Sharp Corporation, and Xiamen University, including Deputy Dean and Minjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor. His research focuses on GaN-based semiconductors, blue-green vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), LEDs, and ultraviolet optoelectronics, with over 200 publications and 20+ patents. He has received multiple honors, including Nanqiang Outstanding Professor, Highly Cited Researcher (Elsevier, 2014–2024), and serves as Editor-in-Chief of Semiconductor Science and Technology.
