Biography :

Sibusiso Mdletshe is a Senior Lecturer and Post-Graduate Director in the Medical Imaging Programme at the University of Auckland (New Zealand). He previously worked at the University of Johannesburg where he was a senior lecturer, Head of Department (Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences Department), and Vice-Dean for Teaching and Learning (Faculty of Health Sciences), and at the Durban University of Technology where he was a senior lecturer. Most recently (2022) he was a Faculty Adjunct at the Higher Colleges of Technology (United Arab Emirates). He is currently the New Zealand Institute of Medical Radiation Technology (NZIMRT) Board member as the Auckland/Northland Regional Director, and a member of the artificial intelligence collaboration of professional bodies in Australia and New Zealand (formed by NZIMRT, RANZCR, ACPSEM, ASA, ASUM, ASMIRT, CNSA). He is also a committee member of the Australia and New Zealand Medical Radiation Research Network (ANZMRRN). He was responsible for co-leading the development and implementation of the first Cardiac Ultrasound programme in New Zealand with the first cohort enrolled in February 2024.

With more than 25 years of university experience, he has background training in radiography (medical imaging) and radiation therapy and has various qualifications and certificates that cut across the disciplines of Human Resources Management, Project Management, Health Sciences Education, and Leadership Development. He is also a Teaching at University (TAU) Fellow and an active member of the Universitas21 Health Sciences Group where he chairs the Interprofessional Education (IPE) Special Interest Group. He is a former vice-chair of the Professional Board for Radiography and Clinical Technology (South Africa).

Sibusiso’s current research is on artificial intelligence for the detection of disease, digital image capturing and processing for enhancing image quality assessment and dose monitoring in medical imaging, image evaluation, and diagnostic accuracy with the use of medical imaging. In addition to being an expert peer reviewer for several international journals, he is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Medical Radiation Sciences, an Editorial Board member for the Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, and a guest Editor for the Bioengineering Journal Special Edition on Artificial Intelligence.
