Biography
Shinobu Oda (小田 忍, Oda Shinobu) is a Japanese biotechnologist, researcher, and academic known for his work in applied microbiology, fermentation technology, and interface bioprocess engineering. He currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Bioscience and Chemistry at Kanazawa Institute of Technology (KIT) in Japan, where he leads research in microbial biotechnology and bioprocess development. Shinobu Oda was born in Japan (specific birthdate not widely published). He pursued higher education in the biological sciences, culminating in a doctoral degree in agricultural science. His academic training provided a strong foundation in microbiology, fermentation, and biochemical engineering — disciplines that would become central to his future research. While detailed information about his early life is not broadly publicized, Oda’s academic trajectory involved significant study and research roles leading up to his appointment as a university faculty member. His early professional history, including work at the company Melsham (生物資源研究所) from 2003 to 2007, hints at an early engagement with biological resource research prior to his transition into academia.
Professor Oda’s academic career is most closely associated with the Kanazawa Institute of Technology, located in Nonoichi, Ishikawa Prefecture, Japan. He joined the KIT faculty in the bio- and chemical sciences department, eventually becoming a full professor in the Life Science and Applied Biotechnology division. At KIT, Oda has built a lab focused on Genome Biotechnology — an interdisciplinary space where microbial systems are studied to understand and improve bioconversion processes, metabolite production, and fermentation systems. His work emphasizes both fundamental science and practical applications, such as the development of innovative bioreactors and methods for microbial cultivation.
