Dr. Kelly Joel Gurubel Tun is a Research Professor at the University of Guadalajara, specializing in modeling, optimization, and control of bioprocess systems for sustainable waste management and energy recovery. He received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from CINVESTAV-IPN and has led several nationally funded research projects, including the SECIHTI-funded project “Production of Biohydrogen and Organic Acids from Agro-Industrial Waste” (2023–2025) and the CONACYT-funded project “Optimal Control Strategies for Wastewater Treatment and Biofuel Production” (2016–2020), in collaboration with research centers and industry partners. He has served as a Guest Editor for PriMera Scientific Engineering (2025–2026) and Diginomics (2025). Dr. Gurubel is also the organizer of circular economy seminars at the University of Guadalajara and coordinator of related books, including Water and energy for sustainable development (2024) and Circular economy (2026). He has published in international journals such as Green Energy and Resources, Sensors, Remote Sensing, Energy Reports, and MRS Advances. Dr. Gurubel is a member of Mexico’s National System of Researchers and holds a professional certification in Teaching and Entrepreneurship Management (CONOCER, 2022)
