(First-Class Hons) and Ph.D. degrees both from the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in 2001 and 2004 respectively. Between 2005-2007, he was a Postdoctoral Research Scientist, involved in two European Union Projects: PIEMAN (Photonic Integrated Extended Metro and Access Network) and TRIUMPH (Transparent Ring Interconnection Using Multi-wavelength Photonic switches) in the Tyndall National Institute and Department of Physics, University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland. In 2007, he joined the Department of Photonics, National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), now is National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU) in Taiwan. He is a full Professor in this department. He is currently the Associate Editors of Journal of Lightwave Technology and IEEE Photonics Journal.
