Jose Jurel M. Nuevo, DrPH, PhD, MSMT, MA Chem, RMT is the Founding Dean of the College of Medical Laboratory Science of Our Lady of Fatima University (OLFU). A distinguished academic leader and educator, he has played a pivotal role in advancing medical laboratory science education in the Philippines. As President of the Philippine Association of Schools of Medical Technology and Public Health Inc. (PASMETH), he introduced significant reforms that strengthened academic standards and collaboration among medical technology institutions nationwide. His influence further expanded across Southeast Asia when he was appointed Secretary General of the ASEAN Association of Schools of Medical Technology (AASMT).

Dr. Nuevo earned his Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Manila Central University, his Master of Science in Medical Technology from Philippine Women’s University, and his Master of Arts in Chemistry from Bulacan State University. He completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Management at Bulacan State University and later earned his Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) from Our Lady of Fatima University, graduating with the distinction of Meritissimus (Summa Cum Laude).

An accomplished researcher, Dr. Nuevo has authored and co-authored numerous scientific publications in internationally recognized Scopus-indexed journals, including multiple papers published in Q1 journals. His scholarly works have appeared in leading journals such as Frontiers in Microbiology, Antibiotics, Biology, and Virulence, as well as other reputable international journals in microbiology, infectious diseases, biomedical sciences, and medical education. His research has significantly contributed to advancing knowledge in microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, public health, laboratory medicine, and translational biomedical research.

Beyond his publication record, Dr. Nuevo actively contributes to the international scientific community as a Technical Reviewer for the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), where he evaluates research proposals for scientific excellence and funding. He likewise serves as a peer reviewer for several prestigious Scopus-indexed international journals, providing expert evaluations that uphold the quality, rigor, and integrity of scholarly publications in microbiology, public health, biomedical sciences, and related disciplines.

His expertise in higher education and professional regulation has earned him appointments to several prestigious national bodies. He serves as Chair of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Technical Panel for Medical Technology and Public Health Education, Member of the CHED Regional Quality Assurance Team (RQAT) for the National Capital Region (NCR), Region III, and Region IV-A, and Member of the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Council of the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), where he contributes to the continuous enhancement of professional education and competency standards for healthcare professionals in the Philippines.

Dr. Nuevo has received numerous national and international recognitions for his outstanding contributions to research, education, and professional leadership. These include the Asian Research Leadership Merit Award (2011), the Outstanding World Research Leader and Editor Award (2014), the Crisanto Almario Memorial Award for Research (2017) from the Philippine Association of Medical Technologists (PAMET), the Gawad Dr. Pio R. Valenzuela Award for Science and Technology (2017) from the City Government of Valenzuela, and the Philippine Federation of Professional Associations (PFPA) Distinction Award for Academe and Research Development, conferred through the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC).
