ABSTRACT:<\/p>\n
We have paid particular attention to those who become transgressors through acts of arson, especially within the context of forensic psychiatric and therapeutic evaluations. It must be acknowledged that these are among the most secretive of criminal actors\u2014often solitary figures, yet paradoxically sometimes active participants in firefighting efforts. In many countries, during this exceptionally hot year, arsonists have been responsible for significant environmental and community damage, causing the deaths of people\u2014and invariably of animals and vegetation\u2014in rural and, notably, forest areas. They are capable of remaining invisible and hidden for long periods while witnessing a disaster that closely resembles a vision of hell. However, an exhibitionist dimension lies latent within them and can become dominant\u2014as was the case with the individual who destroyed the Temple of Ephesus. We also sought to highlight the ambivalent power\u2014particularly the symbolic aspects\u2014inherent in these offenders’ mental imagery regarding fire; they are fascinated by the ability to generate it through friction, harnessing an energy that is then unleashed destructively. “Don’t play with fire”\u2014an age-old adage warning against engaging in hazardous activities. One can imagine the revolutionary impact this discovery must have had: it was a driving force in humanity’s creative evolution, yet also a potential instrument of destruction for individuals prone to unbridled impulses and identity fragmentation\u2014a risk that has been vastly amplified since the advent of nuclear fire.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":5289,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false},"schedule":[],"speaker-category":[],"class_list":["post-5288","speaker","type-speaker","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
