Care may be inevitable, but we must find ways to counteract the concerns that predictably blocks our path to health and effective healthcare. Like anything of value, health requires equity \u2013 timely knowledge and action. Thus, it would be logical to have a process that engages consumers in a health equity partnership with healthcare practitioners. This presentation will demonstrate a strategy\/process for the healthcare system to improve population health, especially for vulnerable communities. This strategy would be of significant value to oral healthcare. Three learning objectives<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Explore the drivers of consumer poor health.<br \/>\n&#8211; Explore why our healthcare systems continue to suffer escalating costs and poor outcomes.<br \/>\n&#8211; Propose a strategy to better connect consumers to their health in partnership with healthcare practitioners.<br \/>\n&#8211; Detail how this strategy can advance healthcare transformation and the value of Dentistry<\/p>\n<p>Learner evaluation<br \/>\nA four-question survey (Five-point Likert Scale: Strongly agree \u2013 Strongly disagree) &#8211; IRB approval (no respondent email or PI collected) from One Brooklyn Health:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; I feel that I better understand how oral and systemic health are closely connected<br \/>\n&#8211; I feel that oral health data from consumers and dentists can reduce the Social Determinants of Health impact<br \/>\n&#8211; I feel that oral health data from consumers and dentists can advance population health<br \/>\n&#8211; What is your role in Healthcare \u2013 Select role<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biography:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ferguson is President &amp; CEO of Health Migration Consulting Inc. and creator of MySmileGuide.com\u00ae. For more than two decades, Dr. Ferguson has consulted with insurance companies, schools, hospitals, and other organizations with the goal of increasing awareness about the value of oral health to overall health promotion and reduction of healthcare costs (and claims). He has a long history of providing continuing education for insurance companies (to their medical and dental health provider groups). Dr. Ferguson has developed oral health education materials and online tools for individuals, caregivers, and health professionals and has a growing reputation of presenting to the healthcare industry.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ferguson&#8217;s career includes 40+ years as Distinguished Teaching Professor of Pediatric Dentistry, School of Dental Medicine Department of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry and Associate Professor of Pediatric Medicine University Hospital, Stony Brook University.
