{"id":5086,"date":"2026-01-13T08:43:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-13T08:43:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cognitionconferences.com\/bacteriology\/?post_type=speaker&#038;p=5086"},"modified":"2026-01-19T11:59:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-19T11:59:58","slug":"samia-hamma-faradji","status":"publish","type":"speaker","link":"https:\/\/cognitionconferences.com\/bacteriology\/speaker\/samia-hamma-faradji\/","title":{"rendered":"Samia Hamma-Faradji"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Abstract<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">Ten strains were isolated from Algerian fruits were tolerance to acid pH and bile salts and were furthermore identified as\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Lactiplantibacillus plantarum<\/span><\/em>\u00a0(<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">L. plantarum<\/span><\/em>) strains by MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry and 16S rDNA sequencing. The identified strains were then characterised for their surface properties such as self-aggregation, hydrophobicity and biofilm formation. The resulting data were then statistically processed using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), after which only 5 strains were selected for further analysis. These five strains, named\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">L. plantarum<\/span><\/em>\u00a01, 2, 3, 4 and 5, were found to be safe and able to adhere to human epithelial colorectal adenocarcinoma Caco-2 cells. In particular, all these strains were active against\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Escherichia coli<\/span><\/em>\u00a0ATCC 8739 and\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">Staphylococcus aureus<\/span><\/em>\u00a0ATCC 6538 through the production of lactic acid (up to 12g.L<\/span><sup><span style=\"font-size: 8.0pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">-1<\/span><\/sup><span style=\"font-size: 10.5pt; font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">) or bacteriocins, namely plantaricin, or their combination. In addition, these strains showed high antioxidant activity against the synthetic free radical 2,2-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and the 2,2-azino-bis: 3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid (ABTS+) radical going up to 78.93 \u00b1 1.18% and 50.06 \u00b1 6.47% respectively. Taken together, these results delineate the different beneficial functions of these\u00a0<em><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;\">L. plantarum<\/span><\/em>\u00a0strains from plant sources and consider them potentially usable as probiotics, biotechnological and biopreservative
