Abstract
Farmanagers® is an integrated platform combining custom IoT sensors and a Farm Management Information System (FMIS) for dairy sheep and goat farming. The system automatically collects individual animal weight and milk yield at each milking session (twice daily) using RFID with large-area coverage antennas. Farmers may manually input data on diet, reproduction, health records, and energy consumption. Communication relies on Internet Protocol. A key feature is the calculation of farm CO₂-equivalent GHG emissions, compliant with 2019 IPCC guidelines, supporting both pure livestock and mixed farms—offering a certification-ready solution. Quantified emissions can inform reduction strategies or potentially be traded under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS). All data are accessible via a web application. Following laboratory validation, a 12-month field evaluation on a mixed dairy farm in Northwestern Greece (1,200 animals) demonstrated 100% RFID identification accuracy. The platform successfully specified GHG emissions and tracked daily or annual milk yield and weight per animal. Data-driven dietary adjustments led to a measurable 10% increase in mean milk yield. By improving animal health and welfare and enabling viable decision support, Farmanagers® enhances economic planning and overall farm management.
